World AIDS Day

Day dedicated to the fight against AIDS / Inauguration ceremony as World Ambassador for the protection of women and children from AIDS (December 1, 2008)

Twenty years on, World AIDS Day sadly continues to be on the agenda. On December 1, 2008, appointed on that occasion Ambassador for the Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy gave her first press conference at Hôtel Marigny. One of her tasks is to promote the implementation of information, screening and prevention programs in Africa for mother to child transmission of the virus.
“I am not getting involved by chance. What I’m doing today is the extension of something that I’ve already done with my family, and I am happy to be able to go much further due to this mission as ambassador“, declared the Head of State’s wife. Her older brother Virginio died from AIDS on July 4, 2006.  A foundation has since been created in his name.
