Turner (William)
Romantic painter/Visit to an exhibition in New York on the sidelines of the 63rd UN General Assembly
Serge Gainsbourg had one in his suite at the Hôtel Raphaël (where he lived year-round). He is one of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy’s favorite painters. Brought up with a father who was an art-collector, today she owns no paintings of her own, but it was as a young woman that she developed her passion for the British Romantic. William Turner (1775-1851) painted dawns and dusks in Venice bathed in golden mist. Every year, the Tate Britain in London — in addition to housing a permanent collection — dedicates a prize to the famous watercolor artist.
In September 2008, in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the presidential couple made a detour to visit the Turner exhibition at the Metropolitan.
