Prince Charles (and Camilla)
Heir to throne of England. Met on English visit March 2008
It was the heir to the throne of England who greeted the French presidential couple when they arrived at Heathrow airport, in March 2008. Accompanied by Camilla Parker-Bowles, Duchess of Cornwall, whom he married in 2005, Prince Charles traveled in a limousine with Carla and Nicolas Sarkozy to Windsor Castle. Son of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales is the founder of the Prince’s Trust, a charity organization whose 700 employees and 7,000 volunteers work to help young people in difficulty. Prince Charles also recently announced that he would be publishing his “annual carbon footprint,” – i.e. communicating how often he took action to help the environment — just before launching the Prince’s Rainforest Project, to increase public awareness of deforestation. A few months after the Sarkozys’ visit to London, Charles and Camilla accepted the return invitation from the Sarkozys. In November 2008, a dinner was held in their honor at the Elysée Palace, the day after a private visit to the Musée d’Orsay and the Louvre. Just a few days before Prince Charles’s 60th birthday, another date was commemorated in his presence, the 90th anniversary of the armistice of the First World War, in Verdun, in the company of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxemburg, the governor General of Australia and of Peter Müller, President of the German Bundesrat.
