Pin (Tiffany)

Jewellery/ Designed for and donated to the Born HIV Free campaign by Tiffany in support of the campaign for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS (June 2010)

Tiffany France CEO Agnès Cromback came on board the Born HIV Free from the start. Bespoke jewellery is nothing new for this world-famous company but it had never, it seemed, designed anything like this pin before. The Born HIV Free pin by Tiffany is a silver version of the campaign logo by H5, a graphic artist collective. The Double Ribbon’s two strokes are held in place by an epoxy part. Three colours intertwine: the mother’s ribbon is medium grey, the child’s ribbon red and the background creamy white. The colours on this pin are “stamped” as on a medal, and syringed on by hand, one small touch at a time, to give it that deliberately fragile look. On 13 July 2010, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who kicked off the Born HIV Free campaign, handed this pin to the wives of the guest African heads of state at the 14 July military parade on the Champs-Élysées, during a meeting about healthcare issues in Africa at the Palais de l’Élysée. That September, at the UN Millennium Goals Summit, the Global Fund’s ambassador was wearing her pin during an interview with the Global Fund’s Executive Director, Michel Kazatchkine, on CNN.
