Leibovitz (Annie)

Photographer / Author of the official portrait with Nicolas Sarkozy (September 2008)

The most famous photographer in the world? One of the most legendary in any case : John Lennon in the fetal position (opposite Yoko Ono) a few hours before his death, Demi Moore nude and pregnant or George Bush and his close guard in the Oval Office… In 2008, the woman who has 142 Rolling Stone covers to her name unveiled Carla Bruni-Sarkozy on the front page of Vanity Fair: riding boots and jodhpurs in front of the Elysee Palace tapestries. “The New Jackie O?” asks the headline. As Diana the hunter or in a red sheath dress on the roof of the Elysee Palace, the President’s wife yields to the eye of the photographer, who has always regretted not being able to immortalize Queen Elizabeth II in a garden full of flowers. Born in 1949 in Connecticut, mother of three girls and partner to the late Susan Sontag, the photographer has exhibited in the most prestigious institutions (National Portrait Gallery, Maison Européene de la Photographie, etc.) After this session, she offered — free of charge — to take the presidential couple’s portrait.
