Saint-Louis (Hospital)
Parisian Hospital / Visit with the Head of State (December 2008)
Founded during the plague epidemic of 1562 (68,000 deaths in Paris), Saint-Louis Hospital has diversified from its first specialty of dermatology. It now deals with oncology, organ transplant, plastic surgery, severe burns victims, and hematology (diseases of the blood). On December 1, 2008, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and the French president visited the infectious and tropical diseases unit of this former annex to the Hôtel-Dieu Hospital. Having just taken up her position as ambassador for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy was shown a demonstration of how rapid diagnosis tests are used. “If they are correctly implemented and accompanied by appropriate advice, they can significantly improve the screening process”, explained Professor Jean-Michel Molina.
