Prevention of transmission from mother to child

Prevention of HIV infection is an important element to stop the spread of the disease. The issue of transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to child during pregnancy or childbirth includes support for HIV positive women by avoiding infection of the child with HIV. Antiretroviral treatments are given to significantly reduce the risk of transmission of HIV to the child during pregnancy.

HIV screening tests during pregnancy possess a certain number of advantages. They are voluntary and confidential and can be recommended by the healthcare provider.
