The fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria

Created in January 2002, the Global Fund is based on a public/private partnership aimed at collecting and allocating additional resources to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. This partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and affected communities is an innovative approach to international funding for health issues. The Global Fund contributes in close collaboration with other bilateral and multilateral organizations.

With $15.6 billion approved for over 572 programs across 140 countries, it is the main source of funding for the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. It provides a quarter of global funding for the fight against AIDS, two-thirds for tuberculosis and three-quarters for malaria. Enabling countries to strengthen their health systems, particularly by improving infrastructure and training health service providers, the Fund has confirmed its determination to work within partnerships to intensify the fight against these three diseases.
