Elders (The)

Realized in 1999 by Richard Branson and Peter Gabriel, The Elders is born of an ideal: bring together statesmen, peace activists and human rights lawyers in order to solve the world’s problems. Before the emergence of a World State, this sort of “alternative” government bringing together 12 figures including Graça Machel, Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter, sheds light on the world’s conflicts, tensions, and imbalances. Famine in Zimbabwe, war in Sudan, and conflict in Darfur have been on the agenda for the latest actions of this group created by two visionaries from the musical world. “I make choices“, stated Peter Gabriel in August 2008. “Between reforming Genesis and contributing to the creation of the project The Elders, I chose the second option, the one turned toward the future.
