Baby in the Sky (movie)

Animation film for the Born HIV Free campaign, presented 19 May 2010

Baby in the Sky was born in Bonzoms, a graphic-designer studio. This animation film is part of the Born HIV Free campaign for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS. The video lasts 2m07s and ends with Carla Bruni-Sarkozy’s voice: “Life is a beautiful journey. Don’t let AIDS kill it. Free future generations from HIV. If you sign up, we can make it happen. On Bornhivefree.org.” This film is work of art in itself. The pop colours show what life can be like without AIDS. It features Amy Winehouse singing soul hit Back to Black in the background and can be divided into several separate sequences: life in the mother’s womb, discovering life and senses (as a dream, in a city, with traffic lights turning into flowers and robots eating sorbets), all the way up to adulthood (above the clouds, with the concerns that come with that phase in life) before the final sequence, returning to serenity at the end of life (the sky lightens up and the character lets the protective older fish carry it away). “It’s a metaphorical, stuff-dreams-are-made-of film, which does not cause anxiety,” sum up Marc Bodin-Joyeux, who produced the film for Paris-Passion, and Jack, a graphic designer from Bonzoms. “The idea is to stop playing about with this notion of guilt for people who pass it on, and to promote the notion of sharing and desire. If a mother passes on HIV to her child, there is medicine for that. The real problem is getting people involved.”
