Atelier Chardon-Savard
Fashion school / Is partnering the Foundation’s fashion scholarship programme, sponsored by Jean Paul Gaultier (2010)
Fashion seen as an applied art ? This was the gamble taken by Dominique Savard, a former student of the Duperré School of Graphic Arts and Cyrille Chardon, a former director of production in the film world, in launching the Atelier Chardon Savard in 1988, quickly joined by designer Sylvie Comugnaro.
After a one-year foundation class at the school of Applied Arts, students are trained for two years in design or patternmaking. Second-year students specialise, choosing from options such as design, knitwear design, accessory design (bags and jewels) and, more recently, shoe design. The course involves theoretical input, workshop-based practice and a module on general culture. The school is accredited by the Ministry of Education.
